Most aggressive pitcher water filter?

I’m looking for a pitcher water filter that will filter out the most contaminants possible. I was looking to purchase an Aquasana countertop filter for my apartment kitchen sink, but the ridiculous faucet/sprayer combo that’s on it won’t take a countertop filter. I don’t want to install an under-sink model, because it’s an apartment and I’m not interested in making that investment for something I move out of.

I’m skeptical of the Brita and PUR pitchers, they don’t seem to do much except improve taste. I’m not worried about taste – my water tastes fine – but our city water tests poorly (high levels of chlorine, higher levels of pharmaceuticals and medicines, high in metals).

Any suggestions? It’s hard to find unbiased review just looking through websites…

Can anyone recommend a water filter for outdoor hose faucets?

My town has recently started to receive water from a reservoir that is being treated with increased levels of chlorine (the extra chlorine was added to manage the presence of some harmless microscopic organisms).

Anyway, inside my home I can easily manage the additional chlorine with filter pitchers or, in the case of my aquarium, water treatment additives. Outside, however, is another story. I have my beautiful veggie garden, and I’m afraid of the damage I can do when I water it with that strongly chlorinated water.

Is there a filter of some kind I can attach between the exterior faucet and my hose so that I can avoid spraying my garden with chlorine? In my internet searching, I can’t seem to find anything.
Thank you – I appreciate the input and the links. Very helpful.

I actually have a rainbarrel I use to water my containers and annual beds. I don’t use that water on my veggies because it is coming off the roof and down the gutters, and therefore I’m not all that sure what it brings with it. All I know is I wouldn’t drink that water, so neither do I want to eat it on my veggies :) .

So I just need a solution for watering the veggies, and, again, I appreciate the links to the hose filters. Just what I was looking for!

:)

Are there any home remedies for decontaminating tap water?

I’m trying to find simple, effective ways to remove chlorine and/or fluoride as well as any other bacteria that can be potentially harmful found in tap water without purchasing an actual filter from the store. Also, does boiling water do anything to improve the quality?

Is tap water bad for you?

I’m thinking about drinking tap water and i don’t have a filter. Is tap water bad for you?I heard it has fluoride and other bad chemicals in it.I heard the fluoride makes your bones brittle and is only good in toothpaste.I also heard it’s bad in the shower because fluoride goes through the pores and still makes your bones more brittle.I also heard chlorine is bad but i’m not sure why.I want a whole house filter that filters fluoride and other chemicals.I only could find ones that filtered every chemical except for fluoride so please help.If i’m missing anything else about tap water please inform me.Thanks.
