I switched my kitty’s food last month. He loved it at first, and I did do the whole "introducing him slowly" and mixing with his old food. Then, I noticed his food hasn’t even been touched since at least Friday, possibly longer (I was away for the weekend). His water hasn’t been touched either, and it was filtered just like he likes it to be.
I had noticed this last night because he seems to have lost some weight and is now underweight. I had picked up a can of wet food on a whim for him so I fed him that last night and he gobbled it right up, so I doubt it’s illness. He also happily ate the dry cat food that the other cat in this household eats (a type he used to eat). I bought him some more wet food because I would like to supplement the dry with it plus help him gain a little weight back. I also managed to get him to drink some water (from a different bowl) a few minutes ago. He also did nibble a little from the new bag of the same new food I bought in the first place. He’s seems more lethargic than usual. Other than his usual cat nap times, he’s a purring little ball of love and energy, but he’s not like that today.
Obviously, if it gets worse, I’ll be taking him to the vet first thing in the morning. But if he continues to improve, continues to eat and drink, should he be ok or should I still take him in?
(It’s funny, after I finished typing this, I realized I should just take him in no matter which way it goes because he lost weight so fast and to make sure he’s not too dehydrated. I’m still posting because I’m curious as to what people have to say. Yes, I’m fully aware I should have paid more attention to his food.)
